| Kathy and David
Kasper started Tulle Hat Company in January, 2007 to begin production
of their signature hat, Shivaree. Inspired by a request and an
idea from their daughter, Susan, to create a gift for a friend
who was soon to be married, Kathy designed the first Shivaree
hat. It was David’s creativity that sparked the Shivaree hat tradition. |
Kathy
is the President and CEO of Tulle Hat Company and also the designer
and seamstress of the beautiful veils for Shivaree hats.
Kathy began her fashion career at the age
of seven learning to crochet, designing and making outfits for
her Barbie doll; her mother, a remarkable seamstress, taught her
to sew when she was ten.
Kathy has a bachelors degree in home economics
education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a masters
degree in vocational education from the University of Pittsburgh
with an emphasis on textiles, fashion and clothing construction.
She taught high school home economics classes for eighteen years,
inspiring many students to study fashion design. She was named
the Most Outstanding Home Economics Teacher in the United States
in 1993. |
 |
| She is an
extremely talented seamstress winning the Make It Yourself With
Wool Contest at the state level and numerous first place awards
for costumes she designed and created for her three children.
Her knowledge of and love for design, fabrics, sewing technique
and desire to personalize for each bride, combine to make each
Shivaree hat exquisite and unique.
David’s 30 year background in the securities
and banking industry provide the business expertise necessary
to run the young, upstart business. His creativity and ability
to recognize customers needs led to the inspiration of the Shivaree
tradition. “Something old, something new, something borrowed,
something blue”, the engagement ring, tossing the bouquet, wearing
of the garter are wedding traditions that have been around for
a long time. Shivaree hats starts a new wedding tradition.
